Failed Chocolate Souffle

by SayHelloBlog, in category Photography

I recently tried a chocolate soufflé at a restaurant in Marfa, Tx. While the name of the restaurant escapes me, I can still remember exactly what the soufflé tasted like. I haven’t thought of it all year until now, and I am determined to make my own version. So here is my first attempt…which was an epic fail, but I actually still ate two of them. After I snapped the photo my beautiful souffle immediately deflated. It was sad, and I am not sure if it could have been avoided by leaving it in the oven longer. After a tear or two I decided to eat it anyways.

I will be tweaking it, maybe less eggs, more butter…and definitely more chocolate!!!

Gettin’ Healthy

by SayHelloBlog, in category Photography

While many people started out the new year upping their gym attendance or starting a juicing habit, or just getting back to work after the holidays, I spent a week being sick.  I don’t think there is anything relaxing about being sick even if you do get a few more days off after the holidays.  I did however spend a lot of days relaxing, doing nothing and finishing Hart of Dixie, both seasons.

My sick days were spent mostly not eating, and then when I was finally able to eat it was very bland, rice and potatoes.  I think that is why I got so excited about a favorite healthy breakfast that I have forgotten about for the last year or so.

I first saw this breakfast/snack in a magazine. I want to say it was Domino magazine, but I can’t remember as I’ve lost the magazine that had the article and recipe. Though I’ve googled it several times I can’t find it.  So I don’t take credit for it, but it is worth a try!!  And it is healthy!

If you want to use Manna bread they have several kinds to choose from at Whole Foods. My favorite is the cinnamon kind.  I don’t remember what it is called, they didn’t have it my last trip to Whole Foods.  I did however get the carrot raisin this time and it is delicious.  Manna bread is sort of a sweet dessert bread and super healthy.  Its sprouted grain and not cooked above a certain temperature.  It goes well with the almond butter, banana avocado spread and blueberries (fresh are best but I used frozen this time).

Manna Bread Almond Butter Breakfast

manna bread

1 banana

1/2 an avocado

almond butter

blue berries

Directions:

Put the banana and avocado in the blender (I added a little yogurt for some good acidophilus).  Blend till it is creamy.  Spread the almond butter on the mana bread then add a generous amount of avocado/banana spread on top.  Top with blue berries.   Yum!!!

Lower Greenville Just Got Cooler

by SayHelloBlog, in category Uncategorized

Dallas is not just about big hair, nice cars, and shopping.  Even though there are as many malls that line the highways as there are cars on the highways (kidding) there are also pockets of cool.  There are boutiques, local art shops, green grocers, record stores, and quite afew hipster locations for hipsters and non hipsters alike.  You just have to know where they are.  I love finding new places in Dallas, and even though I’ve lived here 4 years (I don’t really count the 3 years in college, because I spent most my time on campus, nerd? YES!!) I am always discovering new places and making new friends, and guess what? Not everyone here is from here! That is my favorite part.  Dallas is not all southern locals, it has a wide diverse population, and most people here are accepting of everyone. Or maybe I just don’t get out enough to meet the ones that aren’t accepting.  But if you live here, or are moving here then you are in luck.  With the right guide to the city you have potential to love it here!!

Oh yes, and the weather is not bad!!!  You get winter, but just when you are tired of the cold and ice, 60 degree weather rolls around, and you get a bike ride and a walk around the neighborhood.  Which is what I did today. (As well as a trolley ride downtown, but thats not my focus for this post).

While out and about I went into a store called Stash Design.  I already love the owner, even though I don’t know him.  The store is incredible.  The pieces light up with creativity, literally.  From lamps made out of circuit testers, to coat hanger lamps, to vintage locker closets (so incredible).  Not to mention they will be opening up the room upstairs for art classes. Can’t wait!
