JuneBug and Tea

by SayHelloBlog, in category Photography

20140219-214528.jpg

My 30 photos in 30 days may just turn into 30 posts in 30 days. I am going to challenge myself to post every day for 30 days. So I guess this is day 2. It’s already dark so I decided to take a photo inside. My little dog June Bug is always ready to be in a photo.

My mom is helping me after my car wreck. So this evening we are watching some netflix and drinking tea. Lately I’ve really been enjoying mixing my chamomile tea with echinecea tea. Drinking tea while reading or watching something in the evening is my idea of perfection. I love how calming it is, although I don’t love the high pitched whistle the tea kettle makes, there is nothing calming about it. I don’t liked to be yelled at to hurry up and make tea already. They need to invent a tea kettle that dings when done, I guess that would be called a microwave. Even so, I love my tea kettle, regardless of its rude way of letting me know it’s about to boil over.

Simple Day

by SayHelloBlog, in category Heart to Heart

IMG_8473

I was recently in a car wreck.  The whole experience was a little like a dream, everything slowed down and I could think clearly. As soon as I got through it though, I became a little foggy as if I was in a trance.  I’ve been a little weird since it happened, but getting back to normal now. Anyway, I am not really blogging about the wreck.  But because of it, I had to take a couple days off from teaching to rest and go to the doctor.  My car is in the shop, hopefully it will be fixed.  So even though I am in my 30s now, my mom came up to help me.  She is so sweet.  She took me out to eat at Odd Fellows on this beautiful day.   We had some time sitting in the sun. Now it’s evening and the house smells like turkey and tacos.  She is making taco soup.  We are listening to Simon and Garfunkel.  It’s pretty perfect.

So today it was great to slow down and I even took a couple photos.  I was inspired to do a photography challenge, I am setting a goal for 30 photos in 30 days.  My photo for today is a squirrel I saw out in my front yard. My mom was with me when i took it and it inspired her to tell me about my neighbor and his ferocious squirrel. Apparently the neighbor was attacked by a squirrel because there wasn’t any food in the squirrel feeder.  After being attacked by the squirrel and getting a rabies shot, the neighbor got rid of the squirrel feeder. I thought the story was completely comical, but its completely true as well.   Here is my little ferocious fur ball.

A Pretty Plant Post

by SayHelloBlog, in category Uncategorized

I found this cute place near my house called Redenta’s Garden Shop.  It actually has a Potting Bar where you can make your own little plant creations.  You pick out a pot, a plant, some dirt, and they tons of extras like moss and colored glass to make your creation original beautiful.   I already had some succulents  at home so I didn’t stay, but I was tempted to.  Here are a few things I got at the shop and put together.  I am trying my hand at replanting baby succulents.  Hoping they grow big and beautiful. 🙂plants13

The Single Life

by SayHelloBlog, in category Heart to Heart

Image

Today my smoke alarm started randomly beeping, screaming to let me know its time to change the battery.  Only thing is the ceilings in my loft are 10 ft high, I had to stand on the counter and put a stool on top of the counter just to almost reach the alarm.  Dangerous?  Shows how crazy a little continuous somewhat loud beep can make you.  The office to my complex is closed, and roads are too bad outside to ask a friend to come.  So I thought I would have to pull a spider man and literally climb the wall.  Luckily I texted a neighbor who had a ladder for me to use.  Yay! I didn’t kill myself by falling off the kitchen counter and my smoke alarm is now battery-less.

One thing from living alone is, I’ve become more confident in myself.  But more importantly, I’ve learned to ask others for help.  I’ve never been good at asking for help, I like doing things for myself.  I am the girl who has a hard time with letting a guy carry something for her.  Anyways, here’s to learning new things about myself, allowing others to help out, and to admitting I can’t do it by myself all the time.

The Sun Came Out

by SayHelloBlog, in category Photography

I recently bought a new camera.  So naturally a goal of mine for this year is to improve my tech skills and take more photos.  I love Red Leaf Boutique studios.  Their photos always inspire me.  I did a shoot today with a friend with a few of their images in mind.  I also wanted to be out in nature but it was a little bit of a spontaneous shoot, not a lot of planning went into it.  We went to the trails near her house and found a little bit of nature waiting for us.  It was raining at first but the sun came out later and we were able to capture a few rays of light.

A Beautiful Mess- Photo App

by SayHelloBlog, in category Photography

I am always on the hunt for a good photo app. I found one I really love for just $0.99. Let me tell you why I love A Beautiful Mess Photo App. It’s stylish and simple. I have used instaframe, and a few other apps to make collages, but none of them work quite this beautifully. I love the fonts used. I love the trendy photo frames. It is easy and quick to use and as a bonus you can add little doodles in an array of colors.

There are quite a few colors to choose from when adding a background or border, text or doodle, and the color can also be changed on the frame. There are not a ton of filters, but honestly instagram has so many that you don’t need a ton of filters. I think the quality of the filters is very good and the black and white filters are beautiful. You can change the contrast and brightness, and you can also crop the photo size. Check out the photos and colleges I’ve made below as well as some examples of frames and doodles that the app provides. Also check out the app in the App Store!

Perfectly Wonderful Lonely Evening

by SayHelloBlog, in category Heart to Heart

This evening that lovely lonely feeling swept me away with watercolors and the Weepies.  I am not an artist, but I love using watercolors. The soft strokes of a paint brush with water spreading the colors out over the white white paper, is therapeutic, even if the results are not always perfect.

Image

Slowing down is hard for me, I like to stay busy.  I like to learn new things. Even when having down time, I do something.  When I was a kid I could stay outside for hours with my guitar writing songs, all by myself. If I was inside, I would draw horses, really horrible funny looking horses.  I wanted a horse so I drew them. I saved up all my money (over $1000.00, I thought it was a lot when I was 10).  I never got a horse, and I never got good at drawing them.

I love being by myself. Yet at the same time, if I know I am going to be alone too long, I get lonely.  It’s such an odd thing, this love of being with myself, and then getting sick of myself.  If I know someone else is near then I am ok, like at a coffee shop. For some reason growing up I had a hard time being alone even if people were near.  I would get lonely, and I thought I would never be understood.  I used to think I was not good at communicating, but now I realize, I just didn’t communicate, because I really truly liked keeping it all to myself. It was safe, and secure when it was just me.

I know I am not the only one that struggles with a desire to communicate feelings or show emotion, and I know I am not so far from being very ordinary in my feelings of lonliness.  I am just happy now to say, that though I get lonely, it is a welcomed feeling, and not overwhelming.   I enjoy the quiet, and usually try to do something productive.  Did you know you could be happy even when feeling a little lonely?  Well, shocking, but it is true.  I also have grown somewhat in my desire to communicate with those around me that I don’t know well, but believe it is still hard, not a natural thing for me to do.

Image

Because it’s cold outside, I decided to order pizza, so I could stay in bed and paint.  I ordered Pastazios, New York style pizza.  I got it with chicken, onion, artichoke hearts, and black olives.  The crust is really really really yum!  Reminds me a bit too much of Papa Johns, but the crust has more of a crunch to it. I like that.   So my evening of painting and pizza, was lonely and perfect.  I am also thinking of trying out Val Web’s online watercolor lessons.  If I take a class I’ll let you know how it goes.  She has some really great courses, you can find them here: http://valwebb.wordpress.com
